Wilding

The practice of ‘wilding’ comprises the reintroduction of endemic fauna and flora combined with skilled ecological management in support of natural ecosystems, to enhance biodiversity and restore ecosystem functionality and health. Our wilding projects are completed in collaboration with Odonata Foundation.

A proven approach to completing ecosystem restoration, wilding offers a pathway forward to reducing the risk posed by extinction and building resilient landscapes.

SEASON

A Cornerstone Wilding Project

The South East Australia Sanctuaries Operation Network (SEASON) is Odonata’s strategy to create a collaborative network of threatened species sanctuaries across South East Australia as represented by the following map.

The SEASON model is focused on empowering landholders to be part of the solution. We engage with current and potential landowners to enable sanctuary establishment and management. Our distributed model minimises the cost of establishment and ongoing management and instead focuses on sustainable financial models and funding, creating geographic and genetic diversity necessary for species to build resilience, and spreading the risk of bushfire impact. SEASON enables scaling to a level that will make a considerable positive impact on our threatened wildlife and allows Odonata to focus on strategy, coaching and building threatened species metapopulations.

Each decision made on species population management is based on the guidance of leading research being conducted by Odonata’s Scientific Advisory Group, which work to ensure that the SEASON model is backed by science.
